In short: A clit sucker uses gentle air-pulse instead of direct vibration. To use one, charge it, add a little water-based lubricant, place the soft opening over the clitoris so it forms a light seal, then start on the lowest setting and move up slowly. Pressure matters less than placement: a light touch usually works best.
Clit suckers (also called air-pulse or suction toys) have become one of the most popular toys for people with a clitoris, and for good reason. They feel different from a regular vibrator: softer, more like a rhythm than a buzz, with nothing going inside. If you have just bought one, or are thinking about it, this step-by-step guide covers how to use a clit sucker comfortably the first time.
What a clit sucker actually does
A clit sucker does not literally suck. A small membrane inside moves back and forth and creates gentle waves of air pressure through a soft opening. Placed over the clitoris, those pulses stimulate it without the surface touching it directly. Many people describe the feeling as softer and more focused than vibration.
Many clit suckers, including ours, also include regular vibration, so you can switch between the two or find your favorite.
Before you start
- Charge it fully. Ours take a USB charge and run for about 60 minutes. Do not use it while charging.
- Wash it. Warm water and mild soap, then dry it.
- Have a water-based lubricant nearby. A small amount around the opening helps it form a comfortable seal. Avoid silicone-based lubricant with silicone toys.
- Give yourself time. No schedule and no goal. A first try is about learning what feels good.
How to use a clit sucker, step by step
- Get comfortable. Lying on your back with a pillow under your knees is an easy place to start.
- Turn it on at the lowest setting. On FlowFlow devices, hold a button for 1.5 seconds to start. Try it against your palm first so you know what to expect.
- Add warmth if you like. Double-press the suction button and the light turns red. The surface warms to about 100–109°F in about a minute.
- Find the clitoris. It sits at the top, where the inner labia meet. You can gently part the labia with your fingers to make placement easier.
- Place the opening over it. Rest the soft tip so it surrounds the clitoris and forms a light seal. You should feel the air-pulse clearly. If you feel nothing, adjust the angle slightly.
- Use a light touch. Pressing harder often breaks the seal or feels like too much. Let the toy rest there.
- Go up slowly. Change one level at a time and give each a little while. Try different rhythms; most clit suckers have several patterns.
- Move it around. Small shifts, slightly higher, lower or to one side, can change the feeling a lot.
If it feels like too much
Very common, especially at first. The clitoris is sensitive, and air-pulse can feel intense quickly. Try these:
- Go back to the lowest level.
- Lift the toy slightly so it hovers just above, or move it to one side of the clitoris.
- Place it over your underwear or the labia for a softer, more diffuse feeling.
- Switch to warmth with gentle vibration for a while.

If you do not feel much
- Check the seal. A little more lubricant around the opening usually helps.
- Adjust the angle so the opening sits flat around the clitoris rather than tilted.
- Give it time. Arousal builds, and the same setting can feel very different after a few minutes.
Cleaning and storage
Clean before and after each use with warm water and mild soap, paying attention to the opening. Our toys are splash-resistant (IPX6), so rinse rather than submerge them. Dry well and store in the pouch. Full steps are in our guide on how to clean a vibrator.

Quick answers
How do you use a clit sucker for the first time?
Start on the lowest setting, add a little water-based lubricant, place the soft opening over the clitoris so it forms a light seal, and go up one level at a time.
Should a clit sucker touch the clitoris?
The opening should surround the clitoris, not press on it. The air-pulse does the work, so a light touch is usually best.
Why does my clit sucker feel too intense?
The clitoris is sensitive and air-pulse is focused. Lower the setting, hover slightly above, or move to one side for a softer feeling.
